Guides/Costs & limits
I am being asked to add a payment method, but who am I paying?
The card for message fees pays Meta directly, not WACO.

There are two separate bills, and understanding the split prevents a lot of confusion:
- Your WACO subscription (US$20 a month), which you pay to us.
- Template message fees, which you pay directly to Meta, using a card attached to your own WhatsApp Business account. We never touch this money and add no markup to it.
When the card is actually needed
Only once you start sending paid template messages: reminders, notifications, promotions. Replying to customers inside the 24-hour window needs no payment method at all. Plenty of businesses whose conversations are mostly inbound run for months with a Meta bill close to zero.
How to add it
- Open the Meta Billing Hub (business.facebook.com, then Payment Settings). Sign in with the same Facebook account you used when connecting the number.
- Select your WhatsApp Business account.
- Add a card. Visa and Mastercard credit cards are generally accepted. No credit card? A Visa or Mastercard debit card also works, provided online transactions are enabled on it. Cards from digital banks usually work straight away, while a debit card from a traditional bank often needs its online or e-commerce option switched on first, which takes a minute in the bank app.
- Choose the currency you want to be billed in, so you do not pay an exchange spread on every invoice. Note that the currency cannot be changed later.
The tell-tale sign that billing is not set up: template messages keep failing with error code 131042 even though the template is approved. If you see that, this is almost certainly the cause.
