Connecting Instagram fails because my account is still personal
Trying to connect Instagram and being told your account is still a personal account? That is not your mistake. Instagram only opens the DM-to-system route, the one every platform uses and not just WACO, to professional accounts (Business or Creator).
Step 1: switch to a professional account, free, about a minute
- Open the Instagram app, go to your profile, then the Settings menu.
- Choose Account type and tools, then Switch to professional account.
- Pick Business and follow the wizard all the way through. Do not stop half way.
- You know it worked when a Professional dashboard appears on your profile.
Nothing changes for your followers. Your photos, posts, and followers stay exactly as they were, and you gain a few extras such as insights and contact buttons.
Step 2: revoke the old permission, the step most people miss
If you tried to connect before while the account was still personal, Instagram has kept a broken permission. The consent screen then says "You previously connected..." and keeps reusing that stale grant. Clear it first:
- Instagram, then Settings, then Apps and websites.
- Find WACO Channels-IG and Remove it.
Step 3: connect again
In the WACO dashboard go to the Channels page and press Connect Instagram. This time Instagram asks for permission from scratch rather than saying "previously connected", and once it finishes the Channels card shows your real account name and DMs start flowing into the inbox.
My account IS professional and it still fails
If all three of these are true, the account is Business or Creator with the Professional dashboard visible, the old permission is revoked, and on the new consent screen no permission was switched off, then the problem is on our side or Meta's rather than yours. Stop experimenting and tell us. We handle cases like this ourselves until it connects, at no charge.
