I am tired of pasting the same list of numbers every time I broadcast
The Contacts menu holds your customer list inside WACO. It exists for one reason: so you stop pasting the same list every time you broadcast. Import from a spreadsheet once, correct anything wrong in place, then reuse it as often as you like.
New: an address column on import (or the address box per contact) feeds the
Ad targeting feature — a ranking of your customers' cities & districts and an audience export for ads.
Preparing the spreadsheet
The first row holds the column headings. Only one column is required: number.
number name amount due_date 0812-3456-7890 Ms Ani 250,000 20 August 081298765432 Mr Budi 175,000 22 August
- The number column is recognised whether you head it phone, mobile, whatsapp, or nomor.
- The name column is recognised as name, customer, or nama.
- Any other column is yours to define: amount, due date, class, queue number. All of it is stored and can be used to fill in a broadcast message per person.
- Number formats do not need to be consistent. Local format, international format, with dashes or spaces, all of it is normalised for you.
Importing
- Open Contacts and go to Import from spreadsheet.
- Choose an
.xlsxor.csvfile. - Add a label if it helps, for example
branch-northoraugust-invoices. The label is what you pick from when broadcasting. - Click Import. The result is reported honestly: how many were added, how many updated, and how many were skipped for an invalid number, with examples of the problem numbers.
Pulling contacts from your phone or Google Contacts
No need to retype contacts you already have on your phone — export, then upload; the format is detected automatically:
- From your phone (Android/iPhone): open the Contacts app →
Export / Share all contacts → you get a single
.vcffile. Send it to your computer (or upload straight from the phone) into the import box above. - From Google Contacts: open contacts.google.com → Export → pick Google CSV or vCard — both upload directly. Google's first/last name and phone columns are recognised automatically.
Numbers that aren't valid mobile numbers are skipped automatically — the count of skipped rows shows in the summary after the import.
Using it for a broadcast
When you send a broadcast on an approved template, a "Take from Contacts" card appears. Pick the group and the system fills in each changing part by itself:
{Name}comes from the contact name.{Amount}comes from your amount column, and so on. Matching ignores upper and lower case.
A contact whose data is incomplete is skipped and counted in the report rather than being sent a message with a blank in it. You still land on the review page afterwards, so you can check and correct before anything is actually sent.
Consent
Every contact carries a consent flag. A customer who asks to stop being contacted only needs to be marked Opted out, and they will never be included in a broadcast again, even if their name is still in the old spreadsheet you import next month. That protects you twice over: it keeps you within WhatsApp policy, and it keeps your number quality green.
Common questions
Is this the same as the contacts in the conversation inbox? No. The contact book here is a list for sending to. The inbox has its own list, which grows from people who actually messaged you.
How many can I store? Up to 20,000 rows per import, with no overall limit. Long lists remain searchable from the search box.
Can I delete many at once? Not yet, deletion is one at a time. If you need to clear out a large list, contact us.
